Karl-Heinz Adler (born 1927 in Remtengrün, Germany, died 2018 in Dresden, Germany) was trained as a draughtsman and studied art. He created his first collages of serially layered geometric elements in 1957/58 and went on to apply the principle of layering to subsequent works made of glass, metal, and wood. His major group of “Serial Ruling” works was started in 1967. Throughout his career, the artist’s oeuvre focuses on rendering universal structures visible. A longstanding interest in architecture is reflected in his many contributions to art-for-architecture.
